Default C5 air conditioning issue

My AC stopped working. Before it quit, there was an intermittant "metallic sound" coming from engine when started, not like a bad bearing, more like a loose piece of metal "rattling". Which makes me believe it is the air-conditioning clutch. The AC on light only stays on for 2-3 seconds, then goes off. The CURRENT code is : 60 -IPC U1160.
Any suggestions??

Now, the AC compressor will NOT engage, so there is NO noise. I have the AUTO Temp, option, so I do have the 99-HVAC module, yet there are NO codes showing up for any issues with AC??...maybe just low freon, or whatever the gas is called now 134-a ?? And no current codes on any other module...and there is a fault sensor for the clutch...

Without any ac codes, it sounds to me like the compressor clutch went bad. If there was low freon, you would get a code. This is pretty common. Some of them have problems with the clutch engaged, and others have problems while not engaged. Probably time for a new compressor.

I've seen clutches for sale on the 2004 C5"s..?? or do you have to get the entire compressor??...and yes one common defect on the C5's was compressor issues, from what I've seen...

you can get the clutch separately, but it takes like a $200 specialized gm tool to remove it. you'd be better off just gettting a new compressor.

I can find no code listed for low freon. I would at least have the pressures checked before replacing the clutch or compressor. If it is low it would do the same thing but no noise.
