I ordered my car w/o foglights and ended up buying a set recently. I was going to start assembling the parts required so that I can put them in one of these weekends. I figured at a minimum, the following would be needed:
L & R foglights w/ bulbs (have these already)
OEM mounting bracket or custom fabbed bracket (my neighbor has a machine shop in his garage :) )
Dash hatch release button assembly with foglight switch (figured I'd look on the for sale section here or buy at dealer)
My questions are:
1) Do I need to add a relay and/or fuse or are these installed already?
2) I hear mention of the need to buy or add a wiring harness. But if I look down the opening between the open hood and front facia, I see what looks like an unused electrical connector in the viscinity of the passenger-side foglamp location. I had assumed this was the foglight connection and was already a part of the installed harness. Is this a bad assumption?
I did a search through all the posts and didn't find answers to these questions. If they have and I missed them, please let me know.
I as you are looking into doing the same thing. I was told the wiring is there and all that needs to be done is plug in the wire under the hood and change out the dash switch. Guess we will find out soon.
Bob, thanks for the reply. I hope you're right because I don't feel like stringing any wires from the engine compartment to the back of the dash. If that's the case, my daily driver Ford Ranger might get a new set of foglights :yesnod:
Are these factory lights you're installing? The brackets comes with the lights as an assembly.

The fuse and relay are already installed on the car.

If the connector has two wires and one of them is purple, then that should be the right one. I would verify it by connecting a test light to the wire and turning on the foglight switch just to be sure.
