I am wondering why the difference between the oil dipstick oil color and the oil that comes out of the drain. I ask because I am trying to figure out if the oil is truly circulating through out the system. I have noticed that when I check the oil no matter the remaining life indication the oil is always clean looking. Change the oil and black it is.
What is an indication that the pick up is 100% open or restricted.
Something to consider is that the oil that drains looks much darker due to it being a much greater distance for light to pass through. Try getting some on the dipstick as you drain it and see if there's really a difference.
Seems like you could check your oil temps. If it is not changing, the something could be amiss. If it goes from ambient to ~190ish, then I would presume it is working.
