Default How to stop Rear End leak?

I have a 6-speed with has a replacement rear end. It was supposedly brand new when I bought it and installed it myself.

Problem is the right output shaft has always leaked. I've replaced the shaft and the shaft seal about 3 times. I even installed the new upgraded seal (this was 5 years ago...maybe the upgraded again).

The half shaft was used, not new.

Anyway, the bugger has leaked since the day I installed it. The car was in an accident when I bought it and I rebuilt the right rear susspension. About 100 miles later the original rear let go.

It leaks about a quarter sized drip every time I park it. Any advice will be much appreciated.

Have you checked to make sure the vent is open?
Is the leak between the shaft and seal, or one of the case joints?

I remember checking the vent a few years ago (car isn't driven much) and it was OK. It's leaking at the half shaft seal.

I got a small leak in my Z too...sometimes it leaks more sometimes less ... I just don't feel like taking the rear end upart I'll just wait until it gets bad ....I talked to this one guy how he fixed the leak in his Z ...he used somekind of aircraft sealant that they use for the air planes on the shaft in the area where the seal comes in contact with the shaft...and that cured it for him...so I might try that too if I find that sealant ....

I would check to make sure there are no nicks or dents on the halfshaft where the seal rides. The surface should be perfectly smooth, otherwise it will ruin another seal.

If the half shaft has wear where the seal runs, it will leak. How did the shaft look in that area?
