On my 99 C5 coupe I have noticed lately that my SECURITY light on the dash comes on randomly while I'm driving. The car seems to run as normal while the light is lit, but I haven't gone too far while the light is lit. I usually just get to a stop light, turn the car off and back on, and the light is out once the car is running again.
I thought I might be hitting a fob button accidentally, but this is starting to occur more often, and I dont think thats the case.
I have tried hitting fob buttons to get the SECURITY light to go out, but the only thing that seems to work is turn the car off and on.

Happened once to me. Have no idea what triggered it. Drove it home as I was afraid to shut if off and get stranded. Started it back up in the garage and it was fine.

I'm not positive and I haven't made a study of this or anything, but I think it may have something to do with the particular sequence of events when entering/exiting the car. Example: When you get into the car, close the door but don't put the key in the ignition. Open the door again but don't get out, then re-close the door. The car "thinks" you've exited when in fact you haven't. (The BCM detects a door opening and closing). Or once I got out after a normal shutdown. Before setting my alarm, I re-opened the door to retrieve something a few minutes later. I re-closed the door of course and I think the car (BCM) ''thought" I got back in because when I tried to set my alarm it wouldn't. No matter how many times I pushed my FOB button the alarm would not set. I re-opened the door and closed it again immediately. Then the alarm set normally. Like I said, I haven't made any kind of extensive study of this phenomena or anything, but when it happens I just open the door and re-close it, the alarm sets normally.
I notice that when you shut off your car, then exit, the "Security" light starts flashing to indicate the alarm is not set. Now that I've probably thoroughly
confused the issue, I'll let someone else give their thoughts on this.
Re: "SECURITY" light comes on while driving? (megapack00)
I beleive the key security pellet has momentarily lost contact with the ignition cylinder. I noticed this happening on my car if I had too many keys on my key ring and hit a bump the security light would turn (especially if I did not initially fully insert the key into the ignition switch). Also I would get DIC code 2723 when this happened. I had the lock cylinder replaced as the light would turn on quite often. Now it only happens very rarily as I reduced the keys on my key ring.

That is the more common problem..mine does it if i don't pay attention..If the key backs out of the ignition during a key-cycle it will set a code and a light. Does your key chain have alot of keys on it...extra weight?? I have an excuse..115,000 miles ! and so far that is the only "quirk"!!

Yes, I do have a lot of keys on my keyring! I had thought the pellet losing contact might be the scenario. I'll see if the light comes on when I wiggle the key in the ignition.

We have an area in town where key-fobs usually don't work because of a group of TV and Radio broadcast towers. Are you driving near any strong radio sources?
