Hello, I have a 97 vette with a "few" electrical quirks. The task at hand is my fuel gauge. The gauge never reads more than 3/4 of a tank, even directly after topping it off, and will randomly drop to empty with the check gauges indicator immediately coming on. I have been told that this may be a grounding issue (of course being told this after replacing both sensors). Any ideas? Or folks with similar issues? Thanks guys, hope you're all having a good day.
I had a similar issue yeturday. Not sure if this helps but how I resolved it, albeit probably temporarily, was checked and cleared all the codes in the DIC. After that everything went back to normal. Crossing fingers it stays that way.
I'll try 2 more big bottles and see how it goes. Both sensors have been replaced, and you are def right about the expensive part. If it turns out to be a corroded ground I am going to kick my own ***..
Haha, I have had the vehicle less than a year and I am wondering why I am still the first going through the "common issues" that I see. I think they just ran the poor girl into the ground...
I literally had a crazy evening yesterday where I have fixed everything but that issue. I hate that I have to wait so long to see if the techron is working, lol.

Give the addition of Techron to the gas a bit more of a chance. Sometimes it does take multiple doses to work. If not, you may be looking at replacing the fuel tank sensors like 8VETTE7 mentioned - not a cheap thing to do. Good luck.
Dang man.
In under two hours I'll be signing papers for my first vette, 1997 edition.
This isn't looking good! First the steering column issue now this. I'm already going through this with my '01 Chevy truck.
Steering column issue is a relatively simple issue unless it is already locked up. One of the vendors here offers a great product that just bypasses the problem. Did the car have any of the other issues that you have seen here?
Thanks Evan.
No, not that I'm aware of but I drove it once. Going to sign papers this morning.
It belonged to Ellen's husband who bought it from a coworker who had money problems. Problem fixed but new owner won't resell. Owner dies, sons don't like manuals or chevys so Ellen lists on vettefinder.
Now I'm hearing all about the problems but it's a cash/weekend car for me so I'm okay I guess.
I had the same problem on my 99 frc, I dont think you are giving the techron enough time it took almost 2 months for mine to clear up. I bought 6 bottles and did one every 2 fillups after about a month and a half I started to see my gas gauge stay where it should
I just started running Techron in mine and am hoping it fixes the problem. If not I will drive around with a faulty gauge and just keep putting gas in her. I am not spending the money to fix something that will just brake again.
