My kids got me a Z-06 air box for fathers day(from Ken Fichtner chevy- great service!). Previously someone wrote up their procedure for replacing it. They said to disconnect the battery before installation.....is that really necessary?
In a word - no. I've changed my intake like three times, at least, and didn't disconnect the battery. I did the idle relearn a couple of times but didn't notice the difference between doing it and not doing it. The computer will relearn regardless just by driving it anyway. :yesnod:
the grommets are difficult to remove from their studs. I placed some light grease on a rag and applied it to the stud tips. This made the original cover easier to remove, and allowed the newer one to slide easier over the studs.
Re: Installing Z06 air box question (Mike Mercury)
slide your hands down in front of the hood and bend your fingers to push the filter out, I put some lube on the posts before replacing the cover. watch that the rubber plugs don't come off of the old cover. The new one will not go on if the rubber plugs are in the way. Took about 10 min, I changed out the filter with a K&N. You will have to drive it for a while so it can adjust. The diff in the holes in the cover are huge. Made a nice SOTP diff on mine. :yesnod: :yesnod:
