before i changed my ac compressor i decided to check the codes to see if anything was there. I only had three, 2 of them were the TPMS on the left front and right side which i already had the parts for and was planning on replacing. Anyway the other code was for a ground short on the options button which would explain why it would scroll through the options without me hitting the button! How do i fix this issue, is it pretty common??
The good news is that it shows as an H which means it was NOT occurring while you were pulling codes.
Three things cause the code to get set:
1) The switch was depressed for longer than 60 seconds.
2) A stuck switch.
3) A bad switch.
Once set, the code stays for 50 ignition cycles without the problem occurring again. Looks to me as though it might be an intermittant or 1 time problem. Clear the code and see if it re-occurs.
Lets hope it is NOT #3 as the fix is to replace the IPC according to the shop manual.
Okay when i start the car sometimes it will just start cycling through the options by its self, and it wont stop for a coupe minutes so its possible that option 1, and 2 has occurred, however after it stops It usually wont let me use any of the other buttons, hence when I hit a button nothing happens. I will clear the codes and check again for them today and report back. I'm leaning towards option 3 being the problem, but hopefully not. Thanks for the help.
Okay I cleared the codes and when i checked back it was still there but still without the C in front of it so it wasn't happening when i pulled the code. Does this mean it is option 3?
Im guessing that the switch is right behind the button, will i have to pull the dash to be able to get to the switch its self and work on it. If it is the the IPC where would you suggest i get a replacement one from, if looked a little and have only found Zo6 ones, i have a 98 coupe.
