Pardon me if this posts twice; my 'puter went "sideways" while working on this post, so I had to start over.
Anyway, I'm thinking about an engine swap for one of my toys and am very pleased with the LS1 in my '01 C-5 and am considering that (NOT the one from the C-5, of course).
What is the weight of the LS1 with all accessories, but without flywheel and bellhousing, please? I've looked through a couple of Vette books but don't see it.
You always hear the import guys talk about the efficiency of their DOHC 4 bangers in terms of HP/liter. As if a large engine displacement is somehow a bad thing, when it is actually the EXTERNAL SIZE, and the WEIGHT they should be concerned with. They never mention the added weight of DOHC.
I'd love to reply back with the hp/lb of the LS1, and of their car too. :)
I can't seem to find the number now, I thought I had it. I did find a reference that says the complete LS1 is 88lbs. lighter than the LT4. The LS1 block is only 107lbs., 53lbs. less that an LT1 iron block.
