Default Air Vents

Hi Guys,

I just purchased a 2003 Z06 and it only has 1000 miles on it but the air vents in the car will not switch from the defrost setting. The fan blows at all speeds and the AC works but I can not get it to switch to any other vents in the car. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

I believe it is the Dual since I have the passenger control.

Go to the sticky update and look for post #94.
First look under the passenger dash area, and look for a vacuum selonoid ( several colored lines connected to it. Make sure all of the lines are connected. If thats not it, go to the sticky and read. It could be a broken or cracked line coming off the back of the manifold , or under the battery tray.

Default You have a bad probably acid corroded vacuum line

Mine was disintegrated both from the tank with the check valve and from the source manifold line. OEM lines are rigid plastic and disintegrate with battery acid. Remove battery and bottom battery support and flush liberally with hot water and baking soda. Rinse and dry thoroughly. Repaint any metal parts corroded with battery acid. Find the hard vacuum line and cut off the deteriorated parts. The one from the manifold is inside the huge tape wrapped set of wires coming across from the engine. The one going to the purple vacuum connector under your dash is also inside the huge tape wrapped set of wires going thru the firewall. The check valve is inside the passenger fender and can be accessed by removing 2 or 3 bolts or nuts under the front fender and slightly prying apart the enclosure. GM wants about $7 for the same part you can find in the "HELP" section of Advance, or Pep Boys for less than $5. Make sure you remove ALL deteriorated hard line or you will be doing this again in about a week (like I did). I bought 6 feet of windshield washer hose which fit tightly over the existing hard line. Did NOT replace the hard line going thru the firewall just connected to it. HAVE FUN.
