is your steering wheel straight or turned one way or the other? i had this happen before b/c the steering wheel was turned causing something inside to bind up. try turning your steering wheel and holding it in that position while inserting the key and try to start car.
If it's not the above and you've tried wiggling and shaking the steering wheel, then more than likely your cylinder has crapped out on you. Mine did the same thing not too long ago. The good news is it's not hard to replace if your halfway o.k. with a screwdriver.
I ended up taking my key and leaving it with a dealership to have them set up the cylinder for my key and then I installed the new cylinder in about an hour start to finish.
Your going to have to take most of the console out to get to the cylinder. You can find the write up on that pretty easily. Just search for installing a shifter as it's the same beginning process only you pull the key cylinder rather than the shifter.
Here is a write up I found that Toque wrote. Just ignore the I-pod interface stuff.

Good luck.
