I'm gonna run my car on a .7 mile road course and want to know if there is anything in particular I need to do to the car before hand. What should I set the tire pressure at? Do I need to add the extra quart of oil? Any other advice? Thanks
Re: First time Autocrosser - A few Tech Q's (B-Myster)
a combonitation that worked best for me on street tires is 36psi in the rear and 38 psi in the front. but depending on your sessions and the temps that day you need monitor them and try to keep the pressures per axle identical if possible. if you add the extra quart do it after the cars sit overnight to get an accurate oil reading. also make sure you do an oil change on the other side to avoid oil blowby (burning oil). and also make the sure before you start running that your oil temp is at 160 degrees and above. also if you are new to autocrossing the first few times (maybe even the entire first event depending on skills and comfort level) run in competitive mode rather than turning it completely off. this way active handling is there to watch over your shoulder.

Take off your wheel caps and lug caps. You might be wise to always leave it in competition mode. Especially if the cars not paid for. I just heard about a guy who totalled his 2002 z06 at a local track in Michigan. :cry

B-Myster, is that Grand Sport Speedway? If it's anything like it was, the track is under serious construction. Watch for a nasty pothole at the apex of the corner on the upper right. The track eats tires like crazy.

What event is scheduled?
I'm not sure of the name of the track. It's at the old closed down blimp base near the dog track. The event is actually a Mustang gathering from one of the Mustang boards I surf. They rented the track and have around 100-150 people coming to run including quite a few out of towners. I know most of them so they're gonna let me run as well. Should be alot of fun.
