Had my wheels road force balanced on a Hunter 9700 and specifically asked to have stick on weights on the back side of the spokes and clip on weights on the back side of the rims. They did just that and it looked good at the time. Now 500 miles later I see that 70% of my weights are GONE and the others have slid about an inch from where they were mounted.
So my question to you guys is, are there different types of stick on weights? I dont want to get stung again.
I use stick on (adhesive) weights put on where the least amount of weight will achieve dynamic balance (even when you can see it) then put a piece of aluminum adhesive tape over it so it can't come off. Cleans up in a snap with Heptane and can't even knick the rims.
All I know is that if the place where the weight is placed isn't PERFECTLY clean it will not stick for long. Perhaps your wheel wasn't cleaned properly before the weight was stuck on? Most tire centers don't clean the wheel at all before they stick the weight on.
Ok so now I got the rims back from the Chevy Dealer. This time they attached the stick on weights with silicone sealant just as an added measure of safety so they wont fly off. BUT they pretty much said all bets are off if I go over 100mph. Come on!! How many of you haven't taken the occassional burst of speed up to triple digits?
