I have a 97coupe manual and I am having some serious trouble getting into 2nd. It's got much worse last week at the track when it refused to shift from 1-2. After doing some reading I learned that it could be the extremely dirty fluid. So I changed it about 4-5 times to ensure it was all good new fluid. I took it for a spin and its still not going into second good at all! If I start in 2nd I'm fine and at very specific rpm it will but 90% of the time it won't. It won't down shift into 2 either. What else can I look into?
Could it be synchros? I also had trouble a few weeks ago getting into 4th but not as much anymore.
I just replaced the fluid today but yea I assume it was original. It now has a b m short shifter in it. It also has some added power. Lt headers exhaust intake and dyno tuned.

Does this mean it does or does not have a b&m shifter. If it does check your alignment on the shift rod to make sure that it is installed straight. If that alignment is off it will be hard to shift.
there is a half moon shaped cutout in the shift rod that the shift bolts into. look up shifter alignment on here and there are instructions for how to do it. basically you have to loosen the two bolts holding the shift box to the torque tube and then loosen the bolt that connects the shifter to the trans. the shifter is lined up when the half moon on the shift rod is dead even with the hole in the shifter, then tighten everything down.
