Back side wheel weights and static balancing questions
I had this done to get rid of the wheel weights in the front or outside of my wheels...I've got a slight steering wheel wobble at between 60 & 65 mph...Is there any recourse for this except the better balancing and weights on the outside of the wheels? :smash:
TIA as always.
Re: Back side wheel weights and static balancing questions (BAD2BNE)
I had this done by a shop that uses Hunter equipment. No problems at all thereafter, but the Hunter gear is, I think, key. One note: make sure that you check the brake clearance for the front wheels. The stick-on weights will have to be a little off center towards the inside of the wheel. I also got the wheels aligned at the same time, and it is possible that this is your problem as well.
Re: Back side wheel weights and static balancing questions (BAD2BNE)
I agree to look for a Hunter balancer and make sure that it is a 9700 Road Force balancer. I had a problem with shimmy at 60-70 MPH and had all the wheels balanced 3 times before I turned to this forum for help. Someone recommended the Road Force balancing and even posted the url at Hunter to find a local shop with that piece of equipment.
What they found was that one of my new S-03s failed the road force limits. They matched it to the wheel by spinning it about 180 degrees on the rim and rebalanced. Now there is no more shimmy, at least not up to 150 MPH  I havn't tested it any further! $20 per wheel but well worth the extra to have it done correctly.

Thanks guys
I had a 4 wheel alignment done at the same time as the tire change and balancing work. The guy who did the work too extra long to do it right because he knew I was going to be finicky about how it drove. (BTW, if you've not had your alignment check lately, do so. Mine was off in all 4 corners by quite a bit and I had it done before less than 10K miles ago)
It's got to be the way the balancing was done and the placement of the weights. This shop warned me before I had it done that static balancing is tricky and they'd re-do it if I had any problems :yesnod:
Thanks again,
