Code 1626 questions

98 A4 coupe. just 24000 miles on it. Drove it on a nice day. Punched it to pass a car and it displayed the service engine soon message. Cleared the message and drove it home. First time it has appeared. Got home and garaged it. Pulled codes and found the 1626 HC Next day went out and started the car. Ran fine have not driven it yet. I don't want to be stranded when I drive it so what are my options to fix this?

Any suggestions? I know it is obsolete but I like it!

my list says:
DTC P1626 Theft Deterrent Fuel Enable Signal Lost. Might be a bad ignition switch (just a guess)

Thanks for the input. I did clean the pellet on the key and the code went away.

I do appreciate the suggestion on where to begin.
