Default Top speed in each gear?

Assuming a 3.42 rear end, stock tire sizes, and a 6k redline.
What is the top speed in each gear on an MM6 Car.

I know there is a formula, but I am too lazy to go figure it out.

One thing I learned ( from the forum) ......... You do absolute top speed in 5th ! It seems that 6th doesn't provide the ponies to push you through
the wind, while at the wind-limited top speed of 170 or so, you still have room on the tach in 5th !

(Which I suppose is why the previous poster didn't even mention 6th........)

so, is 6250 where the rev limiter kicks in on a stock pcm.

I'm trying to determine if I should be shifting into 4th on my 1/4 mi runs. So far my trap speeds are right around 107.

I got a little bit different numbers using an on-line calculator.

With 3:42 rear end, stock (coupe) tires (275/40/18), and MN6 (six speed)

6000 RPM (RedLine)

Gear Speed
1 52
2 78
3 107
4 139
5 188 (if you have the power)
6 278 (good luck getting there!)

6200 RPM

Gear Speed
1 54
2 81
3 111
4 144
5 194 (if you have the power)
6 288 (good luck getting there!)

With 3:90 rear end

6000 RPM (RedLine)

Gear Speed
1 46
2 69
3 94
4 122
5 165
6 244

6200 RPM

Gear Speed
1 47
2 71
3 97
4 126
5 170
6 252

With 4:10 rear end

6000 RPM (RedLine)

Gear Speed
1 44
2 65
3 89
4 116
5 157
6 232

6200 RPM

Gear Speed
1 45
2 67
3 92
4 120
5 162
6 240

If you have a completely stock car and you are willing to run to the rev limiter in 3rd gear, you will not have to shift to 4th until after you go through the traps at the end of the track (since the calculator predicts the rev limiter will kick in at ~111 MPH). You should be able to rip off a high 12 on street tires with a good launch and shifts. Before I got my SC, I was completely stock and I was pulling 13.00 at 109, but I was shifting to 4th (and losing time) before I went through the traps.

my numbers are accurate, for a stock car. the on line calculator is using a slightly wrong tire height.

as for drag racing, a stock C5 should go thru the traps in third at revlimit, right at 109 mph. shifting to fourth just looses time/mph cause of where it is. one needs more power to be able to make use of 4th.

the stock revlimit (not "redline") on 97 - 00's is definitely 6250. I've heard it was lowered to 6200 in 01 but have not seen this proved.
