So a couple weeks ago my 99 started displaying the dreaded Service Traction Control message. I pulled the codes and got 1232 and 1233. I checked all the cables but no go. Figuring it was a cheap attempt I replaced the Speed Sensor cable to see if it corrected the problem.. Nope.

Found an EBCM on Ebay and got that. Replaced my EBCM ( same model) and horray codes 1232 and 1233 went away.

However now I am getting 1281 and 1288. I swapped the EBCM and the old problem ( 1232 and 1233 but NO others) returned.

So I put the ebay ECBM back in. Still getting 1281 and 1288 but ABS works fine.

I only have a 7 day return window on the EBCM. It the "new " unit bad or is there something I need to look at ?

Why don't you check the front wheel speed sensor wiring? Unhook the connectors and make sure the pins aren't damaged. The female connectors should have a spring like tab that presses against the male end as it plugs in.

I'm not sure why the problem changes when you change the module. Take a look at the EBTCM connector and make sure the female contacts aren't damage there too.

It's not wiring. i already replaced the speed sensor wire. Also When I put in the replacement EBCM I get different errors

original EBCM

have code 1232 and 1233

new used EBCM

have code 1281 and 1288

Does that mean that the Used EBCM is also "damaged"

The used EBCM is the correct model.

With a tech II you can see what the output of the swps is and see if it's correct or if the ebcm is not processing it correctly (maybe?). I would look again closely at the EBCM connecter.

I am pretty sure the issue is with in the EBCM itself, because I am getting different codes from the two units. If the issue was wiring or connectors then the same code would appear on the two units.

Now for the hard question.

1. Do I live with the code 1281 and 1288? - It does not light up any lights on the dash, it only causes the DIC to display "service Vehicle Soon" at shutdown

2. Send it back and keep looking for a 99 EBCM ( M - non-active) module ??

any suggestions?

thanks for any and all help/suggestions.
