There are some very good write ups on how to install a cam on these cars. Honestly the hardest part is getting the rack out of the way. The best advise I can give you is make sure that you get the front cover alignment right the first time or you will destroy the front crank seal and have to redo the front cover wich means doing everything twice. Ask me how I know haha. The proper way to install the front cover with out the alignment tool is to put all the bolts in loose on the cover then install the crank pulley .Then tighten down the botom bolts in the oil pan and work your way up.
if you have seen videos of cammed c5s then apparently someone has done it... I don't get your post though, did you have a technical question?
Obviously slapnuts I've seen them on YouTube and I know people have I was hoping for some suggestions on where to buy, where to have it done, has anyone had any good or bad experiences, is it something you'd suggest or not suggest etc... Not a smart *** comment.

I didn't have the alignment tool nor did I have time to order one so I just kept the timing cover bolts loose and tightened the pulley on and 10,000 miles later I haven't had an issue yet but like said already, the steering rack's the worst part, after that it should be really smooth sailing. I've never gotten why people make such a big deal about removing the rack, I did an underdrive pulley and front seal in one evening/night. ls1howto I believe has a good step by step process on doing a cam swap, but DO NOT put the pulley on by using the old bolt like they say, you could possibly damage your crank.
Has anyone installed a new cam in their ls1? Been watching some videos on YouTube and there are some nasty sounding c5's that have been cammed.

You ask a vague question and then offer up sarcasm and name calling?
Doesn't make me eager to help.

Really? Your post asked none of the questions you posed aboved, and the response was tounge in cheek and then asked if you had any questions. Not a smart *** comment at all. But hey have a nice a day and yes installing a cam is worth it. You can buy at any of the forum vendors and most are ground by Comp Cams. The experiences will range from good to bad as in everything in life. On average most have been happy with the results.

Genuinely I'm very sorry for the comment. I guess i felt sarcasm from you and it caught me late in a long day. So my apologies. Just wondered if anyone out there had done one themselves and which one to go with. All I know how to do is drive so I would not attempt this myself. Again my bad. Hope there's no hard feelings.

Thank you. I'm sorry for being temporarily classless. It had been a long one. But no excuses. I was wrong.

No problem. Most on here are more than willing to share info and assist. A cam is but one part of an overll plan for performance. So depending on where you want to go, full strip racer to just getting a generous boost in torque for the street, the cam choice will be different. As well as the supporting mods required (springs to handle high lift, fly cut pistons, etc.). Best thing to do is research the forum and some of the cam vendors for what fits your need and budget. if you spell that out here a number of forum members will respond with recommendations.

OP, a cam will be a great addition and a good starting point.
This is from a guy who doesn't do his own work but for me the cost was very much worth it in my truck so I can't wait to get a cam and heads for my car!

no hard feelings at all, I was being a bit sarcastic but not in a bad way... I certainly don't mind helping others on here or giving my advice/opinions but there is a wealth of great info on this site and on the net in general and it gets tiring seeing people ask the same thing every day when all they had to do was show a little initiative and search, sometimes even on the same page haha... so back on topic, you really need to decide what you want to do with the car, how much power you want to make, driveability, etc... then we can help you out with some popular cams that many of us probably use or you can even have one custom ground to your own specs... personally I knew I was going to put a blower on mine but I love the rumble an n/a car makes with a lopey cam so I decided to go with an ecs blower cam... it sounds pretty nasty and made 419/386 on the motor only which isn't too shabby for a small cam and it will allow me to make even more power once the boost goes on... installing a cam is not hard work but it is A LOT of work... check out ls1howto.com they have a decent write up of a cam swap... they did leave some details out and added some steps like removing the whole power steering pump and lines is just retarded and unnecessary but overall it is a good guide... c5s differ from f-bodys in that you have to move the rack but an upside is that you won't have to lower your pan to swap the oil pump if you decide to do that too... I heard bad stories about the steering wheel being moved after the rack was out and I was more worried about that than anything else, I had a club and 2 tie straps holding mine lol... if you have decent mechanical skills I don't see why you couldn't do it, just buy all of the tools you will need and follow it step by step and you will be fine
