Dumb Question about Stingers

What is that muffler-like thing on them? I took a look at them before I got them installed and it didn't look like I thought a muffler was supposed to look like. Is it a resonator?

Not an exhaust guru, but had the Stingers installed on Saturday. They are smaller than the stock ones. The sound is completely different.

What I think- its a muffler, but a single pass one. The exhaust doesn't take turns inside it, hince a high-flow design and loud.

Before I installed mine, I looked into the "muffler" and it was straight thru. Exactly what I was looking for, no baffles or chambers. Less weight also.
