Narrowing down the cause of DIC codes
I am displaying the following DIC codes after getting a "Service Vehicle Soon" message:
28TCS Traction Control System ABSC1255 EBTCM Internal malfunction (5-172)
C1281 Steering Sensor Uncorrelated Malfunction (5-208,5-214)
B0-RFA Remote Function Actuation
U1016 Loss Of Communication with PCM (No SOH Message received –RFA (8-26)
U1064 Loss Of Communication with DCM (No SOH Message Received –RFA (8-35)
U1096 Loss Of Communication with IPC (No SOH Message received –RFA (8-41)
The numbers in parenthesis are referencing the chapter/page in the service manuals.
The only work I have had done to this vehicle was to fix a steering wheel lockup a couple of years ago. It looks to me like it is either a loose wire/connector or a bad module of some sort, due to the communiction loss and the first three which all seem to be control panel area related.
Looked at the manuals and not sure where to go from here. What can I do myself before I need to bring it in? I am not even sure where these connectors/modules are located to check them.
What do you all think?
Thanks!
JP
The first 2 could be related or could be 2 failures. That internal EBTCM failure code doesn't look good. Check the wiring and that you have good power and ground to the module. The pre 2001 EBTCM module can't be bought new if you find no external reason for that code. It failing or having bad wiring could be the cause of the SWPS code. The EBTCM is likely between the rad and engine unless you have a 97 or 98 and then it could be at the back of the car mounted to the rear crossmember.
The other 3 could be a wiring issue. It sounds like an issue with the communication bus wiring. I'd pull the rubber boots out between the door and body and check the wiring there and also check the harnesses under the seats, especially the drivers seat if you use the easy entry feature. Did any of the other modules come up with no comms when you checked the codes?

I think reset is in order as suggested and go from there
