The oil pressure sensor failed in my '98 and I trotted out the trusty Helm manual, because after all, they're the experts - the authority - last resort when you can't figure it out on your own. I invite anyone who has the Helm manuals for their C-5 to read the section on removing the intake manifold. It consists of two small paragraphs. Absolutely worthless two small paragraphs.
A post in the sticky from 2004 by Vectorz provided instructions that not only were concise and well written but included clear photos.
Someday I may encounter the person that wrote this particular section of the Helm manual. I have a few thoughts to share with him/her that will singe the lint in his/her navel.
Okay, I'll ask since I've had my intake off 3 times without issue, and only used the FSM for the torque specs and tightening sequence....
What part of removing the intake did you have difficulty with?
You expect the C5 version to be any better than they typically are for every other vehicle? The experts and authority on servicing the car is available in the FACTORY SERVICE MANUALS. A Helm manual is just a cheaper lesser quality substitute.

May have used the wrong name. What I have is the three volume FSM. The factory manual says remove 8 bolts, the air bridge, MAP sensor (if necessary) and lift that bad girl out. Nothing about disconnecting the fuel feeds, the hose and connector beneath the manifold and more. The post in the sticky on removing the manifold is far better than the FSM
Charlie, I have to agree with you the FSM totally sucks!
I believe that the C5 manual is the first set of manuals produced by GM's STG all prior manuals were produced by Helms Publishing.
The problem really started in the late 1980's when GM in their infinite wisdom decided to farm out the tech writing to contract house's.
I could go into detail but it's long and drawn out, if you think removing the intake is screwed up writing try replacing a heater core per FSM.

I must be an old timer....I remember when FSMs had actual pictures of the components they were discussing, and even showed those "actual components" on the car, in their actual locations, not just some rough CAD drawing, and a semi-understandable bunch of verbage....
I have the three set C5 Factory service manual and it is way less than perfect.............but....My friend has a Lamborghini and there is NO service manual at all. Try figuring out an issue when the only resource is the memory of a factory mechanic!
