I am getting an error message reading, "Steering Column Lock." Anyone know what this means and what the fix is? I have a 2001, C5, 6-speed. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
If I replace the battery, will I have to reset the warning indicator, so that the message stops appearing and goes out and if I do where is the reset located? Thanks.
Strongly suggest you search and install an LMC-5 to address future problems. It's been said that ALL C5's will have a column lock issue at some point in their lives.
OK, I just read the entire pages regarding the LMC5 module. I am going to order and install it before I have a problem or an emergency as the article suggests may happen. I read the following pages and will order from this company, unless someone has a better vendor that I should order from. I am not suggesting that I order from a 'cheaper' vendor, just a better vendor than the one on the following pages. I like the part where they state that the part is 100% American made. http://www.complianceparts.com/index.html
Thanks again for all of the help. Being a newbie to being a Corvette owner, I am thankful for this forum.
After reading dozens of column lock posts over the years, I think I agree that most problems are because people don't drive the cars enough to keep the battery in good condition.
I installed the GM recall bypass relay almost 10 years ago, and have never had a problem.. I also suspect that having the lockplate removed, so that the locking pin does not get in a bind, also helps prevent problems.
