Default "Remove Key, wait 10 seconds"???

What is this telling me? I bought a 2001 C5Z track car and just had the rack rebuilt. First time I turned the car on after install, I get this message. It doesn't go away, buy if I push the reset button It will disappear for 2-3 seconds so I can see the DIC info.

I'm guessing steering rack position sensor or plug went bad? It's the only thing I changed before I got the message.

Have you tried to drive the car yet???

Does the engine stall as soon as the car moves a few feet????
Car drives fine. It has an aftermarket Momo racing wheel. Car is track only and most "creature comfort" stuff is gone. Why would it do this now and not before the rack rebuild/install? Could it be because the battery was disconnected for 3-4 weeks?

And how do I disable it to read the DIC info continuously?

Good call! I remember hearing the column lock motor engage before the swap and it doesn't do it now. Battery voltage was a bit low at 12.3, it's on a tender now.

Another question... When the battery is fully charged again, will the issue resolve itself or is there any other action I need to do?

Side note.. The car heard started since I've reinstalled the rack - another indication of a weak battery. Thanks again for he info.

Also, I cannot reset the message permanently. I can clear it but it will come back 2-3 seconds later. That will be a pain in the a$$ trying to read oil and coolant temps on the track...

Quick update... Battery was on the tender for only 10 minutes. I put key in ignition and put to accessory - heard column lock motor engage right away. Looks like the problem has been solved.

Car is currently back in the air but I will start it tomorrow to see if the message is gone.

Thanks again.

Sorry. Yes, before rack rebuild, I could hear the lock motor engage when the key was removed. It would also disengage when the key was put in and turned to accessory (I think).

Edit: confirmed by starting the car just now. Message is no longer there with car running. I can hear lock motor working properly, just like it used to.
