OK. I am still learning and my head is swimming with all the information I read about, so I thought I would try and sort this out with your advice. I am installing a Donaldson Blackwing and SLP loudmouth this week on my 1998 A4 coupe this week. My question, is what is the progession of things to come to get to (or near) 400 RWHP for the least amount of $$$?
If you could list it in progessive stages, that would be awesome.
Cam Kit first?
Headers Next?
I'd also like vendor names and url's if you have them, thanks!!
Most around here report around 375rwhp, some with 224/224 cams get close to 400 on their A4's. I think either way, get a higher stall converter, and 3.42's and that will feel like 400!
If you are serious about reaching 400 RWHP you will have to do cam and heads. Take your time and buy some of the parts that you will need, like headers, underdrive pulley and LS6 intake. I would have everything installed all at once you will save some money on labor. Since you live in Maryland give Cartek a call they have some of the better head and cam packages around. If you want a nice increase in performance right now get a higher stall torque converter and 3.42 gears, you will need to do this mod with any heads and cam package. The labor charge for installing these is separate from what it will cost you to install cam and heads.
If you want to hit well over 400 rwhp, don't do it in stages - save up for a supercharger kit. I wish the supercharger kits that are now available had been out there three years ago, when I started down the mod-in-stages road. Good luck.
