I know this has been asked a thousand times on here so go ahead and flame me!My shifter has the issue of being stiff when in neutral and I try to go side to side.I have searched and read until my eyes are crossed but didn't find an answer.I have done the anti-venom mod and that drastically improved the shifter but I wanted to know if there was any way to loosen the side to side up a little.I have done the shifter alighnment and lube also.Is this spring tension controlledby springs in the transmission?May be a stupid question but if you don't know, how else do you find out??
The shifter alignment and....lubing the shaft .....are just about the only things you can do besides trying new shifters that aren't as tight. You can upgrade to an MGW and they sell....longer shafts .....so that you won't have to put as much force in the side to side motion.
You do not say whether you have the stock shifter or not.
Since there is no spring-loading on the shifter itself, not much else you can do.
If the stock shifter is too stiff, be sure you do not switch to an aftermarket shifter, since they are almost all spring-loaded, and even stiffer..
I have a Hurst shifter, with stock springs, and the only trouble I have once in awhile is getting into reverse on the first try.
I just went back to a short throw shifter WITHOUT extra springs, mainly because I wanted the old Hurst retro stick, but it was a big improvement and it is still spring loaded (internal to the transmission) enough to make shifting precise.
