Have a 2001 C5. About 1 month ago my front left directional needed replacing. I couldn't figure out how to replace the bulb, so I took it to my mechanic, $50.00 later it was working. Today, my right side front directional needs replacing. I am embarrassed to say I still can not figure out how to get to the bulb. Any help would be appreciated. I love the car, and will spare no expense to take care of her, but $50.00 to replace a bulb seems a little extreme. Thanks, Charl
Try this, do a Goggle search with key words for what you want to do. Generally most of the hits will be from this forum. If you do't find what you need or need some extra info then ask the Forum directly. Glad to hear you want to learn how to work on it yourself. We are always here to help. With that said here is a link that might be helpful:

I feel your pain man. I bought new corner light assemblies (before I found this site)and ended up sending them back because I couldn't figure out how to get the old ones out.
Just came in from replacing my right side front directional. Did the 3 screw method taking off the headlight cover and it was a breeze after that. Thanks to whoever came up with that.
I found it easier to just remove the bottom panel. Plenty of room for my big arms. I did fogs going in thru the headlight opening but arms got scratched up. When I did the turn signal the bulb housing was brittle and cracked but was able to seat the new LED switchbacks which don't emit as much heat so the housings should hold up. Could not imagine trying to put them in from the top.
That head light access is a pain in the ***, access panel on the bottom, takes me 5 min

Removing the bottom access panel is what the GM service manual recommends. It gives you the best access. I just changed out my complete lenses (installed Eagle Eyes clear/black). However, the brake cooling duct was a pain in the *** to work around and it is almost impossible to remove completely.
Believe it or not, one of the side marker bulbs burned out just as I finished re-installing the bottom access panel. I was livid.

Thanks to all for the help and advice. Long story short I tried almost every one of these ideas, and the one that I tried last worked easily. Wound up taking the headlight cover off, after that I was able to see and get to the lamp. I also used some RTV to fill the burned out hole in the lid above the bulb.
Much easier to just remove the access panel behind the lower air dam as GM recommends. Less likely to scratch up arms and less likely to end up breaking something else..
