I recently removed my instrument cluster to install Indiglo gauges. Eventhough I know that I didn't have to.....I removed the needle from the Tach and Speedometer. Now they are not working (tach is about 500 RPM low and Speedometer just sits pegged past 200 until the car reached 75, then the needle moved backward to 90MPH and sits there!!).
Any ideas on where I can purchase a new unit. Is a new unit necessary? Is it possible to fix? I was EXTREMELY careful not to let the cluster sit face down at all, everything was fine until I removed the needles!! :cry
I haven't taken them off my Vette, but I did on my previous vehicle and I'm pretty sure to get them right (or close to right) you will have to put the cluster in the car without the glass, just set it up in there, and start the car (in neutral) and place the needles on with the car running. Now it would be great if you would have marked where they all went before you removed them, or if you have the HUD and can match them up like that, otherwise you will just have to guess. Then test drive. Then Guess again. Unless someone knows a more Techie way of doing it, possibly the dealer. You can sometimes find the clusters on ebay, I saw one with the white face gauges on ebay for around $200 a couple weeks back.
why did you remove the needles?
It wasn't nesessary.
like KylePatrick said, you should be able to find another cluster for around $200.00, try looking on ebay or checkout a local swap meet. I bought a gauge cluster AND a HUD projector for my '98 pace car (HUD upgrade) for $300.00!
Thanks for the info!! I will have to give it a try. I called the dealer and he said something about "turning the cluster upside down" to fix it - Does this make any sense to anyone??
I checked into the cluster auction on e-bay and the seller knows very little about the cluster. He "thinks" it came from a 1998, which (I think) means it will not support my HUD?!?
