Some background on my car and its intended purpose.

2002 Coupe non-Z51
-Lowered on stock bolts with trimmed bushings (not fully removed).
-Mostly street/canyon driving with an occasional track day.
-I do not drag-race and have no plans to do so at this point.


I've already ordered a set of KONI Sport shocks, but they're on back-order until the end of July. So i have time to change my mind if I choose to do so..

I know KONI makes an awesome shock. I've used them in a few of my past cars.

For this application however, they are as expensive as some lower-end coilovers.

The other shock that has captured my interest is the QA1.

I'm considering the "single-adjust" HAL series and the "single adjust" GS402 & GS403 series.....I could be swayed to purchase double adjust if it makes sense.

I don't know if I would run them as coil-overs or just shocks. But it sure is nice to have the choice to add a helper spring to increase the spring rate of the leaf-springs, or even to remove the leafs and run a heavier spring.

I need a shock that works on a lowered car and will hold up to street driving.

Cost matters, but isn't everything. I'm willing to spend up to $1500 (PFADT & Eibach coilover pricing is out of my range...)

I just don't want to kick myself in the butt a year down the line, for making the wrong decision..

So... Gurus, what do you say?

 

I have run the Koni FSD shocks with T1 sway bars and stock Z06 springs for the last 4 years and could not be happier!

I too am a canyon runner, and the more technical the better.

 

The Koni's are a world better than QA-1's. You get what you pay for.

If you are serious about handling having some adjustability is a really good thing. Having good shocks and being able to tune the car a bit is important for track use.

I would look around at different suppliers and see if you can find a set somewhere.

You guys are right, KONI is awesome and you do indeed get what you pay for.

I think I'll just stay on the waiting list for the KONI Sport set. I know I won't regret the purchase, but it was worth asking.

I have always liked the way KONI shocks are valved and the drastic improvement they make over just about anything else I've tried. I've also had great success changing to a heavier oil weight in KONI shocks to run heavier springs.

QA1 is a brand I've always seen offered by Summit, and other places, but have never owned.

Can you tell the FSDs are progressive? That is one type of shock I have never owned. I've always had KONI Yellows and KONI Reds.

 

Best bang for the buck is going to be swaybars, then shocks. Want the best of both look into the JOC stage 1. Its an amazing bar package, and an amazing shock for both comfort and performance. Let me know if you have any questions,
