I'm having an issue with my car popping out of 1st, 3rd, 5th, and Reverse when I release the clutch. The other gears are fine. What gives? Oh, and it's a aftermarket Hurst shifter. Does anyone have some instructions on how to align the Hurst shifters? Oh is it something else that is causing this issue? Rod bent? This shifter was on the car when I got it. Thanks.
Take a look at the Hurst instructions. There is not much adustment, but there are some stops that could be set wrong and prohibit full travel into gears. See step 7 on the 2nd page.
Check your gear stops, as mentioned in the instructions that "QCVette" graciously posted. ALSO, check the adjustment of the neutral gate. Do this by putting the shifter in neutral, and verify that the pin, which you probably don't have, slips through the hole in the nose of the shift box, as well as through the shaft. (It's hard to explain without the car in front of me)
If you don't have the pin, which comes clipped on to the OE shifter, an allen wrench or drill bit will work. You goal is to get the pin to engage both the holes with the shifter in neutral. If it doesn't, you loosen the torx headed bolt on the shift rod, the rod along the left side of the tunnel, and slide the rod until the pin goes through both holes. Re-tighten the bolt to 22 ft/lbs.
I know how to do this, I'm just having trouble explaining it....
Thanks for the help QCVette and leadfoot4! I managed to fix it. There are two holes for the pin to go into. I just moved the pin to the next hole and it shifts in all gears now. Thanks again for your help guys!
