my sideview mirriors turn out.....
I need help my sideview mirriors have popped off the metal stud inside the mirrior housing.Does anyone know what I have to do to get the locking washer back in place on the stud, holding the spring in place which keeps the mirrior turning in only.Can this befixed on the car or do I have to take the complete mirrior assembly off the door in order to put it back together? There are some posts about this. Some members have taken everything apart and rebuilt the mirrors. Sometimes the glass breaks etc. I chose not to do all that, instead I bought a tube of black silicone and glued the mirror back onto the base. I did this on my 1998 and have not had a problem. Of course, the mirror won't pivot anymore but I am okay with that. The black silicone will look like a black rubber gasket similar to the one that is between the door and the base. I used blue painter's masking tape around the base and the mirror so the silicone wouldn't get all the paint. I figured the whole car is glued together anyway, what's one more part? LOL Do a search and you will find others that have done this as well. It's much easier than taking everything apart and potentially breaking the glass and some wiring.
