Have any of you looked into SLP's long tube headers that were advertised in this month's Corvette Fever? Looks pretty good: Stainless steel, ceramic coated inside and outside, tuned lengths for $1100. I don't want to be the first one to bite, though! :)
There was a C5 at SLP Day in Englishtown with them on, they look really nice and quality seemed to be very good. I don't know if they are out yet, that's the only problem with them as I see it.
We have some rough photos in the C5 exhaust section of the site and are currently taking orders to get the first sets shipped when they are ready to go sometime next month. Also have some pretty good discounts too :) Just e-mail for pricing.
I just had them installed on my car. They replaced the RK Sport long tubes(copies of the TPIS). The fit and finish is top notch, especially compared to the RK Sports, you know the ones with the broken tubes . They gave my ZO6 catback exhaust a little deeper growl. As far as power, I have gained 1+ mph in trap speed as compared to the "old" RK Sports. These runs (average of 10 ) were made in 80 degree weather ( density altitude, +2000) as compared to 50 degree weather (DA-700). ET is less than 1 tenth off my best (12.06 to 12.15). So I would hope to see 11's ( my goal with stock internals :) ) with the same DA and 50 degree weather. Besides being stainless, they are fully ceramic coated inside and out, so with performance, you also get durabillity. :smash: I like them....ALOT!! :D
Actually those numbers are up to 35hp/47ft-lb torque. I believe this was done on a modified car. We've installed along of these on the LS1 f-body and usually see about 23-27hp on a basically stock/mildly modded car.
This is some info that we list for these headers -
SLP full length tuned headers for the C5 are an uncompromising example of the search for more horsepower! The length of each header tube (average 25") was calculated to maximize exhaust scavenging. The headers' tuned tube lengths use exhaust pulses to create a vacuum in the collector. This vacuum pulls exhaust gases out of the cylinder making more room for a fresh air/fuel charge. The more efficient exhaust scavenging lets the engine rev faster and produce more torque and horsepower. SLP has seen increases of up to 35hp and 47ft-lb torque! These headers are built with stainless steel 1 3/4" primary tubes that flow into a stainless steel 3" collector. The headers have quality OE flanges and are completely compatible with the stock emissions control equipment. A Y-pipe which include a balance tube is included. A replacement high flow cat/pipe assemble is optional. The OE pipe before the cats must be cut to install headers when using the stock cats.
