ARH 1 & 7/8" race headers and off-road x-pipe arrived today. I was planning on installing them this evening and tomorrow but there are no header bolts in the package. The instructions recommend reusing the OEM bolts. I didn't save them (my fault) on teardown as I assumed that with a set of $1700 headers would come new, better bolts too.
Which header bolts do you recommend? I'd like to call Summit tonight and get them ordered to have them here by Thursday or Friday.
Without a doubt, get the ARP studs and fasteners. When I stripped out a header bolt-hole, I installed the studs in the repaired heads. I've since had the headers loose/off about 3 times, so they really paid off in convenience. Aluminum heads are surprisingly easy to strip with steel bolts. They are 12pt. fasteners, so have the proper tools handy.
Thank you gentlemen. I ordered a set from Texas Speed. Should be here Thursday. Does anyone know about some on the driver's side studs that can't be installed until the header is up and on? Again, they are ARH 1 & 7/8".
You're just being cheap. If you ever have to drop your headers, the studs pay for themselves in convenience. I don't have a lift, so all my mods have been done on stands. My opinion might change if I had a shop. Not on my car.
I bought some black bolts from a vendor on eBay for both my old ws6 and c5 and have dropped the headers multiple times on both cars and they've been fine
I reuse the oem bolts, but use an 8mm lock washer, as the bolts are close to bottoming out in the cylinder heads due to the thinner header flanges vs the stock manifolds.
Thanks everyone for the advice. I went ahead and purchased a set of the polished stainless ARP studs and couldn't be happier. Made installation (by myself) quick and easy. I would buy them again! Appreciate all the help.
