So everyone said that an oil leak is likely the Oil Pressure Sensor. So today I replaced mine. Cut about a two inch hole in the fiberglass splash panel and intended to cover with a 2 inch plug. But the hole I cut wasn't quite big enough for the 1 1/16 socket, so I had to enlarge the hole slightly. This required fabbing up a cover for the hole. All that turned out great, but the OPS was a relatively new Borg Warner and wasn't leaking. $40 wasted, but at least I can get to it easily next time.
Now, back to the oil leak. Where should I look next? When it was on the rack getting new tires a couple of weeks ago, the oil was coming out of the back of the motor where the torque tube connects. This could be a rear main seal or leaky oil pan. Lord! I hope it's not the main seal. But the oil pan could be a lot of work as well. Any thoughts?
May be the cam sensor o-ring. I am fighting the same leak. However my leak is mostly upon cold start up. After the engine reaches operating temp it almost quits. I posted my dilemma elsewhere in the forums but no one has come up with anything. My OPS was fine and not leaking either. I replaced my cam sensor with a new one that has a new o-ring and I still have the leak. I may try a slightly larger o-ring. Just doesn't seem to me like it fits very snug even when new. May be swelling when it gets hot and therefore sealing the leak. I don't trust silicon to help much. Let us know what you find out.
should have just pulled the intake mani. its really not that hard. anyway, i have this issue too. it is best to pull the intake so you can actually see behind the motor. if its not the oil pressure sensor or the cam sensor(which is really rare actually) then its rear main(just like mine). mine just gets wet and i have not replaced the rear main because really, its just not worth it at this time for me.
My oil pan gasket has a very slight leak I was told, and that it was 5 hours labor!
Stealer here wanted over $1200 to replace pan gasket and front seal. Pan is not that big a deal if you have a lift. And may as well replace that front seal while you are at it. Be sure to use a speedi sleeve if the balancer has a groove.
It probably isn't the pan if the oil is around the torque tube, i would be rear main. You have to remove the tranny to get to it. Not a horrible job, but if you haven't done it before it could take a couple days.
Also, you don't want to mess with the front timing cover seal. Removing the oil pan doesn't make it easier. The entire steering rack would have to be removed ( or at least moved a lot to the right) to get the balancer off.
