2001 A4 base Coupe. Stock except for B&M trans pan, Sac City Coolit.
I have always thought that the auxillary cooler should go in the return loop from the radiator. The 2001 FSM at page 7- 222, no. 4 at top left of page seems to indicate that the return line is the top line on the radiator. But Both pages 7-222 and 7-223 have diagrams which seem to show an auxillary cooler on the bottom line at the radiator.
Does anyone KNOW which line is the return?
My radiator has "quick disconnect" fittings with black plastic fingered covers over the fitting at the radiator. How are these released and where can I find adaptors? Line is steel, 0.372" O.D.
Top line on the transmission is the return line on most GMs, except 200 and 2004Rs. The bottom line on the transmission should stay constant to the radiator. It's the pressure to the radiator. Your other line at the radiator should exit the radiator and go into your aux. cooler. Then out of the aux. cooler back to the top line of the transmission.
I track my 2003 A4 Coupe. I chose to bypass the internal radiator cooler when I installed my 25-plate Setrab cooler. On the street the trans temp dropped from 190 to 145. On the track it was 255. Now it is 235 after the fourth session.
