A couple have tried, but no one has figured out why yet. You still have to carry a fob, you have to work around the VATS system and security portion, not to mention the column lock considerations. To me, there's no advantage to spending all the money and effort just so you can avoid the tremendous hassle of having to put the key in the ignition. One guy on here worked on it for over a year and I still haven't seen any successful results posted. I'm sure if it has been simplified by now, someone will post here and offer to sell you a kit.
Yes, it's not plug and play. The push to start is an integrated part of the vehicle electronics. You'd have to swap in a bunch of the C6 wiring and electronics.
There are aftermarket kits. One of those should be fairly easy to swap in. However, many of those then mean you carry 2 fobs, the GM one to unlock the car and the kit one to allow it to start.
