Default What is this part?

I got my engine back from the shop that was supposed to build it in disassembled form. I seem to have most of the parts except the part circled in red. Looks like some sort of starter shield? Anyone know what it's called or what purpose it serves?

Thanks,
Frank

The starter nose will come through the hole. This keeps debris from entering the bellhousing area.

It serves as a kind of "close-out" panel or dust/water shield, etc. There are two. One passenger side and one driver side. GM calls them "trans covers"

Passenger side: 12562042
Driver side: 24232355

ACDelco has them for sale

Numbers 458 and 460 in the diagram:

They're pretty cheap. Personally I would keep them in place.

HTH

Btw, Rock Auto dot com sells both of these for under $6.00 ea. Just plug in the part numbers above. Other places have them as well.

I know I am bumping an OLD thread, but these 2 PN's are still good at multiple parts stores, just not rock auto
