Default Service Vehicle Soon

I am getting this message "Service Engine Soon". I have owned and worked on this car since 1999 and don't recall ever receiving this message before. Anyone know what this generally means?

I am in the same boat. I pulled the codes and got p1637 charging fault. I found a loose wire at the starting solenoid tightened it and the code went away for 2 days but its back. Mine has also been paired with a high voltage from the alternator, have u experienced that?

Default Code 1281 Active Handling Sensors Uncorrelated

Any one know what to do about this fault. I reset it and went for a ride and it came right back.

Default Service "Vehicle" Soon is the message on the DIC

Thanks for your help! There were no other fault codes! Guess what...this is a early 98 and it does not have active handling! It does have traction control. I have been sporting around with the traction control "off". I have had the vehicle in storage for many months with a battery tender while I was in Florida. This past week I put it up on jack stands and installed a Curt hitch receiver so I can haul our bicycles around. I shall go for a ride tomorrow and put the traction control "on" to see what happens!

Is it "service vehicle soon" or "service engine soon"? You stated both. Just trying to clarify. Service vehicle soon usually indicates a exterior bulb is inoperative.

Default DIC Message

It is indeed "Service Vehicle Soon". I will check for exterior light failure. Thanks

I can understand your Service Engine Soon coming on with that funny looking thing on top of the block where your intake manifold used to be...
Service Vehicle soon....came on over 60K ago....car has been tuned, retuned, modified and then a whole new motor and tuning....message is still there

Its part of my startup procedure...I clear that message and Service Tire Monitor every time...of course I haven't had TPMS since the 2nd set of tires either

Here's all the Owner's Manual says:

"SERVICE VEHICLE SOON: If this message appears
on the DIC, there may be an electrical or another system
problem with your vehicle. Have your vehicle checked
by your dealer if this message keeps appearing."

Like others have said, check for DTCs and go from there. Not sure what the full blown factory Service Manual says about "Service Vehicle Soon".
