Default EBCM- Best Torx # 20 Tool Type for Removal ?

I've read through many very informative posts on fixing the EBCM ( 2002 Z06).

I know I will need a Torx 20 and that modules can sometime be a bugger to remove.

My only Question: What is the optimum Torx 20 tool type to use given the working space constraints? Screwdriver handle type or socket type? I want the best tool for the job so I don't hurt the ears of too many of my neighbors

I found a long screwdriver type worked quite well.

I think I ended up using screwdriver type on some, mini flex-head ratchet (HF brand) and various extensions on others. A couple of them were tricky, but it seemed to go back in easier than when it came out. Good luck with it.

Thanks Doc! I guess the screws aren't torqued down so much as to require a socket.

Again I've read almost all the posts on this - but I'm open to any useful tips for getting the module off if it is stubbornly stuck. Should I disconnect the car battery before removing?

Also, I understand it is OK to drive the car with the module removed?

Thanks

I don't recall it being torqued down too hard. I remember trying to get it out with a socket and it was just a pain. There was very little room to work. I put it back on with the screwdriver and I have not had a problem. I didn't disconnect the battery. I think the only issue was that one of the connectors is zip tied to the module and I had to cut that loose.

You can drive the car without the module but you will have no ABS/TC. I would also recommend covering the exposed BPMV to prevent and debris from getting inside.

Thanks again !!

Although more much expensive than rebuilding the units I found brand new EBCM modules in the box/sealed GM units for sale for around $735 ( including shipping). Thoughts?

I wouldn't spend that much for a new unit when I can get the current one rebuilt for ~$200.00.
