Default Harmonic Balancer - question

I am not sure what to do. I noticed a slight wobble in my HB. It is an LS1 with 60K miles on it. As with everyone, money is tight just now. Do I have to rush in and replace it now or can it wait a while. If you think it can wait, what kind of trouble can I get into. I need to drive it to Savannah in December. Your thoughts folks......Thanks, Dave

If it's not a ridiculous wobble, you should be fine. I'd try and stay away from high-RPM runs until it was changed as they'll slowly make it worse.

If you can see the rubber between the pulley and the balancer then it's moving rearwards, otherwise, it's moving forward.

I should replace mine then since I'm pinning the crank and I think the front seal is leaking. Didn't know it was that cheap

Before you get carried away you need to know it's useless to be looking at the outside to check for the first signs of it failing. Watch the belt grooves. If the grooves run true then you're fine.

IF YOU ARE DOING A CAM SWAP OR ANYTHING THAT REQUIRES THE PULLEY TO COME OFF...........

THROW IT AWAY!!!

Replace with an OEM GM(which may fail again in a few years), or spend an extra $130 on a Powerbond

It's like pulling the heads on a 80k LS motor and leaving the stock lifters in

Penny wise, Pound stupid

I have a Powerbond one for sale for $70 shipped. My motto is if your going to change something don't put in a inferior part that will break, put something in that will last.I just had mine changed. I'm surprised it wasn't throwing any belts or anything because just idling it was wobbling like crazy. I cant imagine what it would be like when getting on the gas. Better to be safe then sorry

OE replacements are indeed that cheap. However, considering the labor required to get at the balancer (pulling the steering rack), I'd be inclined to spend a little more money and get a better piece.

A stock crank pulley can let go in one day.It could last several months there is no exact time frame. if you think replacing a crank pulley is expensive, imagine what an engine could cost. loose that balancer completely and there goes your main bearings.. allow that balancer to move backward and you've lost the crank seal, which needs to be replaced too.
