I know a lot has been written in the past about similar issues but I am a little confused and am hoping for some assistance with this. I have a 99 FRC that has started showing "Service Traction Sys" on the display. I read the codes and it was showing P1571 and C1277.
I cleared the codes and drove the car. After about 10 minutes the same message came up on the display. I read the codes and it is showing the same ones.
Where do I start with this? Is it the EBCM and if it is, am I just SOL since it is a 99? Is it possible that I can check and clean grounds or connections that could be causing the issue? Any help would be appreciated.
I would start by flushing the ABS pump myself. Raise the rear off the ground and run the car in 1st gear. The computer will sense that the rear is going faster than the front and turn on the ABS pump. I have read on here before that sometimes that the fluid gets old and sludgy in the pump from lack of use so sometimes you have to activate the pump to flush it.
I had a 02 with the same codes. After cleaning every ground twice,I purchased a rebuilt EBCM. Same codes still there.
From a thread that stated the EBCM should have power to pin B with the ign on. Ck'd and no power.
Bill Curlee confirmed the ign switch needed cleaning. I had 3 very bad contacts. Cleaned unit. Power to pin B,problem solved.
Just a thought. Worked for me. Good luck.

Thanks for the information. I looked at Bill Curlee's write up on removing and cleaning the ignition switch. In those instructions, he says to disconnect the wiring harness connector for the inflatable restraint module switch on the passenger side, I believe that is behind the glove box? I have the service manuals for my 1999 and in the manual it does not say anything about disconnecting that wiring when removing the ignition switch. Can anyone confirm that this does or does not need to be done?
I am glad I found this thread!! Today driving to work my '98 displayed Service Traction control with the same codes as the OP P1571 and C1277. I'm sure my igntion switch needs cleaning.. daily driven with almost 190k miles
Just wondering if the OP was able to resolve the issue.

I have not had any codes return since cleaning the ign switch. After many trial and errors, confirming loss of power at fuse #5 and pin B. Cleaning was the correct way to go.
You might confirm with ign on,not running power at these points.

I cleaned the ignition switch contacts per Bill Curlee's instructions and the message and codes have not returned since. Hopefully that fixed the issue.
