Default Head/Cam vs. Supercharger & Intercooler

Can someone give me a "bang for the buck break down" for solid street use and vacation drivability...?

I'm guessing street use the H&C is limited to 450 flywheel, and the S/C intercooled about 525.

Price -wise the H/C would be 5K, and the S/C would be 8K.

Am I on the money with this?

Default Re: Head/Cam vs. Supercharger & Intercooler (MiamiDave)

Hi,

I have MTI stage 2 LS1 heads & T1 cam in my 1999 hardtop. The car is my daily driver and I have about 43000 miles on it (7000 since h/c install). I love it and highly recommend it. I think you can do that for about 5k-ish and have a kick-*** ride!

I think with a supercharger you will have more horsepower and definitely more torque however I've heard they can require frequent "tuning". I don't know much about that though.

Personally, if I had to do it over again right now and could only choose between h/c and sc- I'd choose h/c because I think it is a bit more proven in C5 applications. Since mine is a daily driver I can't afford to be a guinea pig!

Who does your install is probably a very important factor- if they have a lot of expertise in supercharging the C5, that should be a critical part of your decision.

Good luck!
Justin
