Re: 01 Z06 gauge cluster....is it HUD enabled??? (Ram Air Tony)
RAT
I just completed a HUD installation in my '98. I used a cluster from a 2000. It is my understanding that all guage clusters after '99 were HUD enabled whether the option was installed or not... You should have it... I had to build my own harness using info from this list (Thanks to Black Knight, Godspeed and others).. Let me know if I can be of help...

Shirl.....yeah, BUT the Z06 gauge cluster is different in appearance  .... so that makes me wonder if the plug is the same as the 99 up regular cluster .... see what I mean???
Re: 01 Z06 gauge cluster....is it HUD enabled??? (Ram Air Tony)
I don't know for sure, but I'd bet they are HUD enabled. The only thing that should be different is the guage cluster face. I think the other differences are handled in the programming. Besides, I think Chevy had every intention of putting the HUD in the 2002's when the 2001's were released. It wouldn't make much sense to have the gauge cluster different for 1 year from a manufacturing/purchasing perspective.
After thinking about it, doesn't the PCM actually drive the gauge cluster? If so, I'd think it would also drive the HUD. Which makes me wonder if it's the PCM you should be concerned about, not the guage cluster itself.

Actually it has nothing to do with the PCM - it's all controlled by the guage cluster.
I added HUD to my car - just keep an eye open for a totaled car being parted out.
Re: 01 Z06 gauge cluster....is it HUD enabled??? (Ram Air Tony)
So are all 99"s clusters hud enabled? Am I reading that right? I would also like to do it if I do not have to replace my cluster! My car is a 99. Thanks ;)
Re: 01 Z06 gauge cluster....is it HUD enabled??? (c5racr1)
Did you have to replace windshield? There is a reflective portion made for HUD in the windshield if you have it as an option.....my 2000 has it!
I am looking for a 99 FRC now and HUD is hard to find so I am thinking of just putting one in if it doesnt have it......curious about whats involved/costs
Re: 01 Z06 gauge cluster....is it HUD enabled??? (skidmarc)
for the IDEAL view of the HUD reflection, yes you would need the windshield....BUT many guys have retrofitted it into a non HUD windshield containing car and you can see it clearly and it looks fine (learned this from reading here :yesnod: )

Take lots of pictures and keep good notes on this.

Re: 01 Z06 gauge cluster....is it HUD enabled??? (Ram Air Tony)
RAT,
I did this mod to my 99 coupe. The projector already has the wire on it that connects it to the dash cluster. The wire that is the PIA is the one from the page/control switch on the left side of the dash to the other connection on the cluster. You can make your own if you can't find one -- do a search and look at my wiring info on it. There are also some posts (I don't remember if mine has it) on part numbers, etc. I also cut my own dash.
Bottom line -- go for it.
Looks great and the windshield thing is a non-issue. Mine looks fine to me, but hell, I'm getting old and can't see too good anyway.
