Steering column lock issue - need help
Is there any way to remove this and get the car running without it?
I accessed the ecu with hp tuners and disabled the vats there, just have to unlock the steering and get the key to trigger the ignition.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

As I had this same problem, the "Shock your lock motor actuator assembly by jerking the steering wheel against the stops. Re-insert your key and try again." did in fact help for me.
Hope this helps.

I contacted Rich at Compliance Parts.com, best phone call I could have made, man does that guy know his stuff,,,gave me a ton of advise and a bunch of things to do, I think I'll be ok with his help!!!
Thanks corvette forum!
I am also in contact with compliance parts, and it seems like the way for me, but I hate to loose the column lock. Too bad it is no longer dependable. Time waits for no one, I suppose the age of the car has effected the circuit, so out it goes.
The only thing missing from this post is a mention of the key function, how the computer reads it on the removal, and reads it again upon insertion. If it misses one of these events, you get the pull key deal, to try and restore the sync. THe lock decision is made before you start the car.
I am trying to preserve the lock function, by being aware when I use the key. I am also using a fantasy method of function preservation, trying to set the wheel to prevent any stress upon function. Perhaps a bind effects the circuit resistance readings to the control, I live in a world of diminishing hope with this car, but it is hope. And Fantasy, machines don't self repair. I have a pretty worn lock , and that is the straw I am grasping, that it is not the old circuit, just faulty key reading.
I like the column lock since I might park the car unattended at remote trailheads for a couple of days. I am going to ask about the possibility of putting the bypass device on a switch, so I could use as needed. The extra stuff would probably throw off the resistance, so I have to ask.
Now, I am trying to accommodate what the old car wants, figure out the events the car likes and see how long that is feasible. It's all imagination right now, until the circuit completely fails. Right now it is intermittent and rare, so I will buy the parts and hang as long as I can with the old circuit, and shake the wheel when it locks incorrectly.
