Gents,
I am having issues with my Vett when it comes to the charging system. I have changed the alternator and it still doing the issue that I had before. The issue that I am having is that when I start the car the car volts are at 11. It will stay that way till for a few minutes and then it will jump back up around 13.0 to 13.8. What I am noticing is that when the car drops to 11 during start up or while driving the car will give me a SYSTEM CHARGE FAULT on the Screen. Also throws a LOW OIL LEVEL, this really only happens when the car volts drop. I have changes the battery, alternator and even the oil level sensor. Can anybody help and has had the same issue?
it sounds like maybe a bad ground connection, possible that a wire on the starter is loose, maybe frayed a little or the inline fuse is going. Check the starter wires, engine grounds etc.
If no luck contact Bill Curlee, he will get you through it.
Disconnect the battery, jack up the car, grab a small mirror and a light and check out the connections at your starting solenoid. I've had 2 issues with voltage in my vette and both have been connections at the starting solenoid. One time the solenoid housing cracked and I had a stud hanging in space and another the stranded wire had starting slipping out of the ring lug attached to the solenoid. Let us know what you find.
Here are 2 pictures to help you. Will call you again to explain today. I am hoping it will be a loose connection at the starter or a fusible link. Worst case it could be the PCM or PCM connector shutting down the alternator. When you replaced the battery did you see any signs of acid leakage? The PCM is right under it.
