Does anyone else's car do this? It blows ice cold when driving but if I sit at a light for a few minutes the air starts to warm up and gets to where it's barely cool. I just had a shop check the R134 charge and they said it was good. It's too hot in Texas for the air not to be super cold when in a car.
Did you happen to get the actual low/high side pressure numbers from the shop?
I'd check something easy to begin with, the condenser coil in front of your radiator. Make sure they are clean and free of debris. Also check your fans, make sure they are kicking on/off. I imagine they are otherwise you'd have an overheating thread going also, hah.
It was 100 degrees out today and the low side was 50 psi but I don't remember what he said the high side was. I cleaned the condenser out today too. There was a little bit of debris on it but it wasn't too bad. The fans go on and off when the A/C is on and the car is warm. I didn't know if they should stay on or not.
The low speed cooling fan is commanded on when the coolant temperature reaches 108°C (226°F). It is turned off if the coolant temperature lowers to 104°C (219°F).
The high speed cooling fan is commanded on when the coolant temperature reaches 113°C (235°F). It is turned off if the coolant temperature lowers to 108°C (226°F).
When the A/C is on and the coolant temperature reaches 85°C (185°F), the low speed cooling fan will be turned on at vehicle speeds less than 56 kPh (35 mph).
If it's that hot outside they would stay on I imagine, or click on/off with the compressor. Not sure if the corvette has a refrigerant pressure which to command fan speeds or not. My buddies Porsche has one.
When the car is sitting still (I tested this earlier) and the A/C is on high, the compressor will continue to run but the fans click on and off. That was with the car warm and it was about 95 degrees.
kinda wish i had your problem. mine gets colder at idle such at lights but warms up as i go waiting to figure mine out. it would be the opposite of yours. i have worked on a saturn 2004 a/c which had your exact problem. and it was a valve in the compressor cost 40.00 to replace. it just bolted into the compressor 2 screws. and recharged the a/c now it works like new but i have not checked to see it our vett have the same or not. it is what regulates the amount of freon at different speeds so at idle it would need to allow more freon to keep cool!
