Default What Mod: TQ, 3.42s, Powerloader/Hypertech??

I want to do my next Mod since I just got Pilot Sports and about to them on.

I dont have much to spend since I just the the new tires so I narrowed it down to the things listed above.

Which do you think is best worthwile with still maintaining daily driveability.
And if you think TQ than which one?
How much are 3.42s?
And Im leaning more towards Hypertech because I dont feel like waiting a month or two to get my Mod.

If you have any other mod you think is good than let me know...make sure its around the same price as these.

BTW, Got a 2000A4 with Haltech Tric and XR1....has 3.15s from factory

Thanks

I dont know how much money you have, but I have the 3.15s and am putting in 3.42s and it looks like I will go with the sy 3500. If you dont want to wait 2 months go with EDwright you should get your PCM back in a few days, and it will be MUCH better than the HPP, it will be worth it as long as you can find a way to go without your car for a few days. I bought my 3.42s used for $525, you should be able to find some for about that much. New they are $850-900. Good luck, and let everyone know how it goes. :D

I would send PCM to Ed Wright at Fastchip, he reprogrammed my PCM with fantastic results! Car shifts firmer, has more torque, more HP, and runs cooler thanks to Ed. Normal turn around is a few days. Contact him at 918-446-3019 you'll be glad you did! :cuss

DO NOT buy a HPP3 as it does not work with 3.42 gears. I found that out the hard way ofcourse. But there are a couple people out their that went from 3.15 to 3.42 and did not have a pblm with computer setting code P1870 TCC slippage. I had 2.73s and had to buy ls1 edit which as it turns out for my car does not handle the gears correctly either. If I had the 3.15s in my car I would not have messed with the gears. My 2 cents.

If you just want to handle the gear change/lower thermo fan settings/shift firmness for now, go with a HPPIII used for $175-200. Just be sure to verify that it's one of the "special ones" (???) like mine that clearly states in the manual that 3.42 is an option, AND the owner has had success with it, like I have. When you are ready to move up to custom or LS1 Edit, you can easily resell it.

The above general post stating the unit won't work is inaccurate, as I have pointed out before. Find one that does, I did.

I will be selling my HPPIII in a few weeks if I have to go to custom or if LS1 Edit can work for my application (3.42's & H/C).

Good Luck!
you can email if any q's re using the HPPIII

A converter would be your biggest bang for your buck.

What about going with trans-go shift kit. you can get it for 90-130$. 130 with video and idiot directions or skip the video and get it for 90 and have your mechanic install it.

I am thinking a trans-go shift is one of my next mods.

If/when I do this it's going to be 3500 SY, Trans Go shift kit, 3.73 gears and programming all at once.

That's my .02

A MONTH OR TWO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its been 5 months for me and my damn powerloader... :mad

Get the gears NEW, you don't want another person's hassle and the hassle of installing, and uninstalling and reinstalling the old ones again if they are bad. Spend the extra couple hundred. You already spent enough on the car. Do it right the first time. And the SY3500 with the TransGo is quite nice.

What do you mean by "the special ones"? I bought mine from Ecklers and although the manual had info in it for gears from 2.73 to 3.90 when I hooked it up it gave me two options. 2.73 or 3.15. I talked to Hypertech's programmer and he said they can not break GM's code for gear scaling for the 3.42's. That's from the horses mouth and the unit I bought was three months agos. So please explain to us this special one that you claim to have that works for a car that has 3.42 gears in it. I advise USMUSCL to call Hypertech and find out if they have it figured out yet and don't listen to any workaround B.S. because it dosn't work. I wasted 330.00 on this product and don't want anyone else planning on 3.42 gears to do the same. Hell, LS1 edit hasn't even got it figured out either, I dropped 563.00 on it and the gear scaling for 3.42 is not right! I speak from experience, take it for what it's worth.

My 3.42's were around $600 (used, low mileage) & about $300 to install.

Hypertech did NOT properly correct the 3.42 gear!!! Superchips did not either... I had to wait it out for a Powerloader. Although I am also reluctant to give Powerloader any business until they learn some customer service, they do have the best program available.

Here's a post I made a while back comparing tuner programs... http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=133505
