I am currently running an 18x12 (check sig) CCW wheel on the back of my car. With the right amount of tubbing can i go with 18x13 and have a flush fit without any problems with the control arm. If anyone has this mod chime in thanx
How wide of a tire you want to run? I'm running 335x30x18 on an 18"x12" rim without problem and others are running 345's on them. I noticed you have a 325x30x18 listed in your sig, who makes it?
the 325's were made by Michelin.. but they discontinued the size, i want to run a 335-30 on a 13 , the tire looks alot wider on a 13 because of the stretch. and as an added bonus it makes the tire "flatter" for a more stable ride.
note: same wheel and tire combo size on 99-02 vipers
I think if you run more than 9.5" of backspacing, you're going to rub on the control arm when the suspension is extended - bumps, hard cornering, etc. Just my experience, might not be true for everyone. Good luck.
John (CCW) wont build wheels w/more than 9.5" BS... I dont know if it's a strength of wheel thing or a C5 wheel bearing issue, but a 9.5" BS means the wheel will stick out (3/4" to 1")
18x13's .. you would have to maybe contact Lingenfelter ... I think that most run 18x12's ... but LPe installed 13's on their most recent magazine car ... the 427TT ... I think ..
I have seen 18x12.5's on the back of a tubbed C5 with the maximum backspacing you can go with and they stuck out a good 1/2 to 3/4". Any wider you go than that will all be on the outside of the rim causing it to stick out that much further. I dunno about you, but anything more than 1/4" sticking out and I really dislike the look.
NoMercy is running a 19x13 and rwj383 is running a 19x12 both with the 345's. I believe the 18x13 rim will hit the back leg of the upper control arm.....which is why i think you have to run the 19" rim if you want to go 13" wide. Heck drop both an email, i'm sure they'll be glad to answer any questions you got.
He must have changed them then, because i remember he had the 13" wide rims when MTI finished his car. But i also remember him saying that they rubbed a little........which is why he probably changed sizes.

Your right about 9.5" bs being the limit for an 18" wheel. I have 18"x12" HRE 547's in the back with 345/35/18 Pilots. TheHRE offset came in at 73mm....giving a backspace of about 9 3/8" the tires stick out maybe 1/4-3/8". I had to do a little minor grinding on the control ars and shock brackets to get proper clearance. This setup limits how low the car can be set. I'm down about 1" from stock andf that's just enough to prevent rubbing.
Thanks for all the info everyone.. i guess i'll just stick to the 325's on my 12's,, i did not realize another inch of wheel could cause so many complications. I like the 345's but i feel the sidewall being a 35 series is just too damn tall. No flames intended to those who are running 345's.. thankx again
Sorry for the large pics, my PaintShopPro trial period expired  I will try to fix it during the day :yesnod:
See my sig for wheel/tires sizes. I have tubbed the rear 2 inches but I still get some minor rubbing to the inside fender(the corner of the tire) when hitting large bumps. This might have to do with my VERY low car. I have 2 3/4inch from the frame to the ground behind the frontwheel and 3inch in front of the rear wheel :D But most important I have no rubbing to the control arm and the tire do not stick out outside of the fender.
I do not think it's possible to use a 13" wheel and keep the tire flush with the fender without major work. I've seen pics on a replacement body for the C5 replacing every body panel making the car a couple of inch wider but it's high $$$. Making only the fender wider to the outside or having the tire stick out would look ugly. My $0.02 :)
Had LPE install the min tubs and went with a 12 1/2in wheel and 335/30/18 tires. The 12 1/2in wheel would NOT work on my car and Fiske redid the back halves too 12in wheels. They work fine. The LPE 427TT has a body kit installed on it. My guess is that a 13in wheel will NOT work. Would go with a 12in wheel.
