This Morning I discovered that my Dual Zone Airconditioning has gone wacky. With the air on, the system blows lukewarm air on the drivers section and cold air on the passengers setion. It doesn't matter where I set the temperature controls, it remains warm on the driver side. Has anyone ever seen this and does anyone know of a simple fix??
Re: Help!! Dual Zone Airconditioning Failure (Mickyd747)
Someone just posted the same problem last week. There are 2 vent doors in the ventilation plumbing to control the driver and passenger air separately. The left (driver's) vent door is stuck in the warm position. The electronic actuator motor that controls the door may be toast. One thing you can try is pulling the A/C unit's fuse (or disconnecting the battery temporarily) and reconnect. This causes the A/C head end to go through a start-up routine including calibrating all the actuator motors/doors travel and limits and may reset the problem.

I had this same problem once a few months ago. From experience with other cars I recognized the problem as "stuck vent doors". I did the following, which seemed to "unstuck" the doors, and problem has not reoccurred:
Turn up your temperature as hot as it will go. This should open the doors to the max, and you should get hot hair on both sides. Let it run for 20 seconds or so. Then turn the temperature as cold as it will go. Hopefully the doors will close, and you will get cold air out of both sides.

Must be a Florida thing. Had it happen twice (always after disconnecting the battery), had the door motor replaced twice. Last time though, we were able to get it unstuck by simply clearing the HVAC code. I also recall some folks on here getting it unstuck by disconnecting/reconnecting the negative battery terminal again (causes door to cycle). If you're still under warranty, you might want to get the motor replaced. :yesnod:
Re: Help!! Dual Zone Airconditioning Failure (Mickyd747)
This happened to me twice (02 vert) when the car was new. I reported it to the dealer, but since it wasn't doing it at the time, they couldn't do anything. But the factory called me about some survey and I reported the problem to them and they called me back and said it was "impossible" for this to happen, that it can't be more than a 5 degree difference between sides. Mine was blowing heated air from the driver side and A/C from the passenger side. I had to turn the air completely off and roll down the windows to drive the car. I got where I was going, turned the car off, came back about 30 mins later, started the car, tried the a/c again and it worked fine. The factory did say that turing the temp control all the way can "trick" the temp control and it takes approximately 5 mins (I think) for it to adjust itself. Hasn't happened since. However, this did happen on my wifes Lexus once and we couldn't believe it! Good luck finding the problem.

That's interesting. The problem developed after I disconnected the battery on Sunday.

The fact that this started after you disconnected the battery sounds like the calibration routine got interrupted or didn't complete properly. Try it again. I'm not sure if the A/C unit needs to be off to do this but leave the A/C unit off, hook up the battery and listen for the actuators going through their routine. The service manual should have the procedure laid out. The other suggestions above might work as well to set the temp to Max and leave it there for a few minutes, then set at Min and leave it there for a few minutes.
