I started up the coupe last night after a few days in the garage. The above message appeared on the DIC. The car started normally, the message disappeared immediately and did not reappear. Anyone know what it might mean?
I get that message at leaset once a week. I have had it to the dealer three times and they say everything is working fine???I did a search on the forum and found that several people have resolved this by fixing some grounding issues. I told the dealer this and they said that they checked and all is fine??? Time will tell.
I had this occur after pulling the vette outa winter strorage and finding batt was flat (dumb butt here forgot to disconnect batt.). I recharged it and it seemed fine. Then coupla days later the car wouldn't start. 1 jump-start from a collegue at work and then a recharge, it seemed ok again.
2 days later I got the charge system fault message. When I opened the hood I found one of the the vent caps (Optima red top) had blown off and sprayed a small amount of acid under hood . Damage was minimal (paint). Battery was totally shagged.
Wow that is strange, I came here today to look for this exact topic and it was right on top! I had the same thing happen to me two days ago but it has not ocurred again since. I guess it is okay then :)
I received the same message when starting my 1999 C5 coupe. The dealer was "stumped" despite several visits and called Chevrolet Technical Assistance.
The technician was instructed to check several ground locations on and near the starter (under the battery tray). He found several nuts that were loose on the studs, with corrosion present. He cleaned the locations and tightened the nuts. Since then, I have not received the DIC messages.
The technician stated that Chevrolet Technican Assistance immediately knew what the problem was and it must be fairly common (since they knew).
